Free Maps On The Library Of Congress Website

I thought you might find this interesting, old maps on the Library of Congress website http://memory.loc.gov/ammem/browse/ListSome.php?format=Map

I'm not sure if this is the main page or not http://memory.loc.gov/ammem/gmdhtml/gmdhome.html , probably best to try both links.

Looks like they are using the new JPG format, JPG2000. More info here http://memory.loc.gov/ammem/help/compression.html .

IrfranView is free, it can be downloaded at http://www.irfanview.com/ (you will have to download the program & the plug-ins). It will open JPG2000 (JP2) & the MrSID (SID) on the Library of Congress website, plus will allow you to save it in many other formats. The MrSID viewer was already installed on my computer, possibly by one of those pay sites ;-) but you can download a viewer strait from the Library of Congress website http://memory.loc.gov/ammem/help/download_sid.html .
